What if you could see into the future? What if you knew what your great grandchildren thought about your recycling efforts? Want to know how your descendants will feel about global warming? What they'll think about how you and I treat the planet?

Pull out your photo albums. Go on, go do it now, we’ll wait for you, the Earth will keep turning. Look at the wedding picture of your grandparents. Study it closely. How young and innocent they seemed. Prop that picture up on one corner of the couch. Now take the baby pictures of your children out of your wallet and lean them against the opposite arm of the couch. Think about all the food and fresh water that your grandparents consumed, that your parents consumed, that you and your significant other consumed. All of that was needed to create those adorable kids smiling for the camera.

Now imagine how different things would be if your grandparents had consumed endlessly, needlessly, like fire ants devouring everything in their path, and your parents did the same, and so did your generation. Imagine what’s left for those kids, your kids. You swore when they were born that you would make any sacrifice for them; you would give your life for them… but you didn’t. You wouldn’t even give up that pink plastic purse you bought at Wal-Mart or that gas guzzling SUV you thought you needed to make sure they got to all the soccer games and school plays and…

Strike a match and set the pictures of your kids on fire. Watch the flames devour them, twist and curl their little bodies, scorch their cute little faces. Look over at your grandparents, see their anguish, hear them apologize to your little ones, feel their broken hearts… notice all their good intentions do nothing to put out the fire. You didn’t sacrifice your life for anybody… you sacrificed theirs.
